Commentary: For Pennsylvania Families, the Midterms Can’t Come Fast Enough

by Stacy Garrity

The critical midterm election is in less than 70 days, but it can’t come soon enough for Keystone State families being crushed under the weight of failed Democrat policies. Reckless spending by Democrats in Washington has driven us into a recession and burdensome policies by Tom Wolf, John Fetterman, and Josh Shapiro have left Pennsylvania with high unemployment and shuttered small businesses. As State Treasurer, I know the importance of fiscal responsibility. I oversee an office of more than 300 employees and am tasked with protecting more than $150 billion in state assets. As a Pennsylvanian living in Joe Biden’s economy, I know firsthand the consequences of reckless spending and see the painful impact on every town in the commonwealth.

Whether at the gas pump or the grocery store, the cost of basic goods has risen to a level unbearable for Keystone State families. Democrats continue to gaslight voters rather than stop the historic inflation they kickstarted. Their agenda calls for making oil and gas more expensive and monumentally increases the size of the IRS over the needs of our fellow citizens and neighbors. Meanwhile, Pennsylvanians are left making tough decisions, foregoing necessities in order to make ends meet. A parent shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on the table or buying school supplies for their children. Yet, rising costs are presenting formally unimagined difficulties for families here in Pennsylvania while their elected Democrat officials make matters worse.

What is the Democrat solution? Pass the the Bidenflation Scam, a bill which will shrink the economy during a recession, kill thousands of jobsimpose crushing taxes on families and businesses, and worsen – not reduce – inflation. The Democrat plan seems to always be to throw more money at a problem instead of coming up with fiscally responsible solutions. Taxing Pennsylvanians during a recession will only worsen the plight of the average family. One nonpartisan analysis found the Biden Tax Hike will raise taxes on Americans making as little as $20,000 annually. Pennsylvanians can’t afford a tax hike during a recession. Also, let’s be perfectly clear where John Fetterman stands on this tax hike: He wholeheartedly supported it.

The Bidenflation Scam Bill also includes $80 billion for 87,000 new IRS agents at an agency that audits Americans earning $25,000 annually FIVE TIMES MORE than other income groups. Every single Pennsylvania Democrat in Congress voted for these new IRS agents who will be sent to audit everyday, hardworking, honest people. The audacity of Democrats to think the working class is the problem while they rub elbows with donors and hike taxes shows just how out of touch they are with Pennsylvania voters.

Fetterman and Shapiro will continue to blindly support Biden’s disastrous agenda, no matter how much it hurts the people they claim to be helping. In fact, Fetterman has been a vocal supporter of the Democrats’ many spending sprees, even saying they didn’t go far enough.

Fortunately for the Keystone State, Republicans continue to gain momentum across Pennsylvania. Enthusiasm among voters is on the rise. For the first time this century, Republicans exceeded Democrat turnout in a midterm primary election. As voters continue to register as Republicans, closing the voter registration gap by over 145,000 since Election Day 2020, the Republican Party is committed to reaching all Pennsylvanians. In fact, in 2022, across all 67 counties, the majority of party switches have been towards Republicans, including in Philadelphia County. The Republican National Committee’s victory team has made over 2 million voter contacts this cycle alone, with efforts only continuing to grow. Republicans are fully committed to Pennsylvania and to electing Republicans like Dr. Oz and Doug Mastriano, who will deliver commonsense solutions for all Pennsylvanians.
